Girls' Basketball

The Varsity Girls’ Basketball team dropped an 83 – 59 decision to the Hastings Yellow Jackets yesterday, February 8th.  Jackie Mottola led the scoring for the Horsemen with a career high 31 points and 6 three pointers.  Jill Vallo added 13 points and Tauress Campbell had her best game since opening night to chip in ten points.  Our next game is our final game of the season on Monday, February 9th at home at 4:30 vs. Albertus Magnus.  Seniors Aileen McGee, Christine Angevine, and Lindsay Zekus will all be playing their last home game so please come out and support them and the rest of the Horsemen.  (posted 2/9/07)


On Thursday, February 8th, the 7th Grade Girls' Basketball Team beat Rye Neck 39-23.  The Horsemen played tough man to man defense in the first two quarters leading to a 21-9 first half score.  Forward Marisa Rosario played a great all around game and scored a game high 11 points.  Jenn Onwe also played a good game under the basket, grabbing rebounds and scoring 8 points.  Point Guard Jamie Bucci handled the pressure well and came up with 10 points.  Barbara Good and Alecis Birrittella played tough against Rye Neck's full court pressure.  They combined for 5 points.  The girls play their last game at WI on Tuesday, February 13th at 4:15 against Edgemont.  (posted 2/9/07)


The Varsity Girls’ Basketball team lost to the Albertus Magnus Falcons yesterday, February 6th, by a score of 47 – 36.  The Horsemen put forth a strong effort and staged a big comeback try by outscoring the Falcons 15 – 2 in the fourth quarter but came up just a bit short.  Lindsay Zekus (3 three pointers) and Jill Vallo each had 11 points to lead the way.  Our girls played tough team defense to hold the high scoring Falcons below their season average.  Aileen McGee also added 8 points as well.  It was a strong effort by all.  Our next game is Thursday, February 8th at Hastings and our final home game of the season is on Monday, February 12th.  That is also Senior Day.  Game time is 4:30.  We hope to see you all there.  (posted 2/7/07)


On Tuesday, February 6th the 7th Grade Girls’ Basketball Team beat Bronxille 35-7.  Jamie Bucci led the way with 18 points as the Horsemen took a quick lead.  Lakia Anderson played strong down low, scoring 5 points and grabbing rebounds.  Barbara Good, Alex Lappin, and Jenn Guzman played aggressive defense and each scored 2 points.  The Horsemen played a tough 2-3 zone which led to steals and fast break opportunities.  The girls play again on Thursday, February 8th at Rye Neck.   (posted 2/7/07)


On Monday, February 5th the 7th Grade Girls’ Basketball Team improved to a record of 9-1.  All eleven girls played tough defense and contributed to the 41-8 win over Blind Brook.  Lakia Anderson led the way by scoring 12 points from under the basket.  Forwards Jenn Onwe, Sara Rennert, and Marisa Rosario each scored 6 points and grabbed rebounds for the Horsemen.  Guards Barbara Good, Alexis Birrittella, and Katherine Doyle set up the offense and made exceptional passes to their teammates.  Jamie Bucci played a great all around game with aggressive defense and 8 points.  The girls have another home game on Tuesday, February 6th vs. Bronxville.  (posted 2/7/07)


On Thursday, February 2nd, the Girls’ 7th Grade Basketball Team played Ardsley and won by a score of 39-36.  The close game showed how well the Horsemen can play together as a team.  All 11 girls played and contributed to the big win.  Point guard, Jamie Bucci, scored a game high 17 points and added key assists at the end of the game.  Marisa Rosario added 6 points and was a force under the boards.  Jennifer Onwe and Lakia Anderson also played tough under the basket, each scoring two baskets.  Guards Alexis Birrittella, Barbara Good, Katherine Doyle, and Alex Lappin played composed, while Ardsley put on tough full court pressure.  The girls play next at Washington Irving on Monday, February 5th at 4:15.  (posted 2/5/07)


On Monday, January 29th, the 7th Grade Girls’ Basketball Team beat place City Irvington by a score of 28-16.  The Horsemen played excellent team defense with great off the ball help from Alexis Birrittella, Sara Rennert and Katherine Doyle.  Lakia Anderson and Jennifer Onwe were aggressive under the basket grabbing rebounds.  Lakia had a game high 15 points and Jennifer added 6 points.  Jamie Bucci and Barabara Good did a great job against the zone defense, dribbling to the middle and making nice passes to the forwards.  The girls play again on Thursday, February 1st at Ardsley.  (posted 1/30/07)


The Girls’ Varsity Basketball team had an outstanding comeback last night, January 29th, against the Byram Hills Bobcats.  Our girls never quit and came from behind to win 55 – 54 on a deep three pointer (almost half court) at the buzzer by Jill Vallo.   The girls were down 10 points with 4 minutes left and were down 4 points with 11 seconds left but our year long “never say die” attitude brought us back.  Jill Vallo led the scoring with 25 points and had 8 rebounds.  Jackie Mottola also had an exceptional game.  While being double covered and shadowed all night, Jackie still managed to contribute 18 points and 12 rebounds.  The girls really showed their heart and determination in this comeback win and I am very proud and appreciative of their effort.  Our next game is Wednesday, January 31st at Irvington at 4:30. On Thursday, January 25th the Girls’ 7th Grade Modified Basketball Team played Blind Brook and won by a score of 38-16.  Seven girls scored for the Horsemen.  Jamie Bucci had nine points and Marisa Rosario and Barbara Good each added eight points.  Lakia Anderson played strong under the basket and added five points.  Alexis Birrittella got two baskets and handled the ball very well.  Jessica Campbell, Alex Lappin, and Jen Guzman played aggressive defense while Sara Rennert and Jen Onwe grabbed rebounds to start the fast break.  The girls played together as a team which led to a great win.  Our next game is on Monday, January 29th at Irvington.  (posted 1/29/07)


The Girls' Varsity Basketball team played at top ranked Pearl River on Friday, January 19th.  It was a tough game for the ladies but we played hard all the way through.  Aileen McGee led the offensive attack with 10 points and Tauress Campbell contributed 7 points along with a team leading 7 rebounds.  The girls have off this upcoming week for midterms but we resume our schedule on Friday, January 26th at home against Mamaroneck.  We are looking to avenge our six point loss to them earlier in the season.  Please come out and support our team.  We will need your help.  (posted 1/23/07)


The 7th Grade Girls’ Basketball team is now 5-0 with a win over Edgemont on Thursday, January 8th.  The girls won with a score of 34-15.  It was a close 14-9 game at halftime until the Horsemen pulled away with a team effort.  The girls’ aggressive defensive pressure and quickness on the fastback led to the strong win.  Laika Anderson and Marisa Rosario played strong under the basket with 10 and 6 points, respectively.  Jamie Bucci added 8 points while Alexis Birrittella had 6 points for the Horsemen.  The girls play again at 4:15 on Tuesday, January 23rd at Washington Irving.  Come support your team!  (posted 1/23/07)


The Varsity Girls’ Basketball team was defeated by the Hastings Yellow Jackets by a score of 65 to 49 on Wednesday night, January 17th.  Jill Vallo led the scoring attack with 22 points (Four three pointers and 6 for 6 from the line) and Jackie Mottola contributed 11 points including 3 more three point baskets.  Despite the score, our girls might have played one of their best games of the year.  Christine Angevine, with help from Jill and Tauress Campbell, really shut down Hastings leading scorer Nora Skrelji.  Skerlji averages 20 ppg but was held to just 6 last night.  It was a total team effort on defense yesterday.  Our next game is Friday night, January 19th at Pearl River.  The game is set for a 4:30 tip off.  We hope to see you there!  (posted 1/18/07)


The Girls’ Varsity Basketball team hosted 9 – 2 Ardsley on Friday, January 12th and battled with the Panthers all night but fell off in the fourth quarter to suffer a 55 – 41 defeat.  The Horsemen had a 2 point lead with 2 minutes to go in the third quarter but fell behind and couldn’t catch back up from there.  Jackie Mottola led the way with 19 points including three more from behind the arc.  More impressively she was 6 for 6 from the free throw line and added 9 rebounds as well.  Jill Vallo had 8 points and 7 rebounds to help the cause.  Lindsey Zekus led the way defensively as the girls played an all around good game.  Our next game is home, Wednesday, January 17th against Hastings in a Varsity double header.  We play at 4:30 and then the Boys’ Varsity plays right after us.  Please come out and support your teams!!  This is a great opportunity to see both varsity teams play on the same night.  Take advantage.  (posted 1/16/07)


On Thursday, January 11th the Girls 7th Grade Basketball team advanced to a 3-0 record with a win over Bronxville.  Jamie Bucci scored a game high 18 points while Lakia Anderson scored 16 points.  The Horsemen played aggressive team defense with many steals from Jamie Bucci, Katharine Doyle, and Barbara Good.  Jennifer Onwe and Jessica Campbell played tough under the boards.  The girls play again at 5:45 on Tuesday, January 16th at Washington Irving.  (posted 1/12/07)


On Tuesday, January 9th the Girls’ 7th Grade Basketball team got their second win of the season by beating Ardsley 31-30.  The girls played a great team effort, especially on defense.  Jamie Bucci and Barbara Good each scored 6 points for Hollow while Katharine Doyle added four points.  The girls play again on Thursday, January 11th at Bronxville.  (posted 1/10/07)


The Girls’ Varsity Basketball team played at Nanuet yesterday, January 9th and suffered its third straight league defeat by a score of 66 – 45.  Jackie Mottola had a tremendous offensive game by scoring 26 points including 4 three pointers.  Aileen McGee had a nice game as well chipping in 9 points.  Our next game is home against Ardsley on January 12th at 6:15.  Please come out and support your team.  (posted 1/10/07)


The JV Girls Basketball team lost last on Tuesday, January 9th to a tough Nanuet team.  Again, the Horsemen played solid defense but struggled to put points on the board.  The team has been led by eighth graders, Jenny Angevine and Kerry Oliveira.  Freshmen Alex Milhaven, Sara Rodrigues, and Charlotte Frank have improved their defense and working hard to improve their offense.  The team next faces Ardsley at home on Friday, January 13 at home.  (posted 1/10/07)


The Varsity Girls of Sleepy Hollow fell by a score of 56 to 40 against the Irvington Bulldogs on Friday night January 5th.  The Horsemen were led by Aileen McGee and her 12 points.  Jill Vallo contributed 8 points and 8 rebounds and Tauress Campbell added in a team high 10 rebounds along with her 8 points.   Kelly Bender scored her first four points of the season in the defeat.  Our next game is Tuesday, January 9th at the Nanuet Golden Knights at 4:30.   Please come support our team.  (posted 1/8/07)


On Friday, January 5th the JV Girls Basketball team suffered its fourth loss of the season to Irvington 30 - 8.  After tying the game at 4 – 4 half way through the first quarter, the Horsemen went scoreless for the remainder of the first half.  Although down 22 – 4 at halftime, the girls refused to quit and came out in the third quarter with renewed vigor.  The Horsemen played tough defense and fought for loose balls.  Irvington was held to only eight points in the second half.  However, the Horsemen only managed to score 4 points.  The girls have improved their man-to-man defense and continue to work on basic offensive skills.  The girls next play on Tuesday, January 9th at Nanuet.  (posted 1/8/07)


The Varsity Girls' Basketball team came back to the court after a long Christmas break to play the Pearl River Pirates at home on Wednesday, January 3rd and suffered a tough defeat by the score of 50 – 32.  All the girls gave a spirited effort defensively in holding the top scoring Pirates to only 50 points.  Jill Vallo led the scoring with 11 points while Jackie Mottola and Lindsay Zekus each had 7 points.  Tauress Campbell cleaned the glass with 10 rebounds.  We had a nice crowd at the game so we are hoping for more support on Friday night, January 5th as we take on the Irvington Bulldogs in our gym. The Varsity Girls' Basketball team got back on track last night, December 20th in a revenge game against the Pelham Pelicans.  Our Horsemen came out on top by a score of 42 – 36.  The girls stormed out to a 12 – 6 1st quarter lead and never looked back.  The balanced attack was led by freshman Tauress Campbell with 12 points.  Jackie Mottola added 10, Aileen McGee had 9 & Jill Vallo chipped in 7.  The difference in the game was the girls’ free throw shooting.  They were a season best 15 – 23 from the line.  When we come back to school we start our league play so please come out and support our girls.  We really need to make this a home court advantage.  The Horsemen next play Pearl River on 1/3/07 at home at 4:30.  (posted 12/21/06)


The Varsity Girls’ Basketball team suffered a tough defeat on Thursday, December 14th in the first game of the Walter Panas tournament.  Brewster and Hollow went back and forth the whole way but Brewster was on top when the final buzzer sounded by a score of 55 – 50.  The girls were led by Jill Vallo with 22 points, 7 rebounds & 6 steals.  Aileen McGee added 8 points & 3 steals and Tauress Campbell added 7 points & 8 rebounds.  We play next on Saturday, December 16th against Ursuline at Panas at 2pm.  (posted 12/15/06)


The JV Girls’ Basketball team faced off against the Tigers of Mamaroneck on Monday, December 11th.  The teams traded baskets in the first half and the score was 22 – 18 at half time.  The Horsemen were again led by eighth graders, Kerry Oliveira who scored seven points in the first half and Jenny Angevine who scored six in the first half.  The girls had a tough third quarter due to foul troubles and Mamaroneck extended their half time lead.  The Horsemen lost the game 44 – 21.  The girlsnext game is January 3, 2007 home vs. Pearl River.  (posted 12/12/06)


The Varsity Girls' Basketball team dropped a 52-46 decision to the Tigers of Mamaroneck lon Monday, December 11th.  The balanced scoring attack was led by Jackie Mottola and Aileen McGee with 12 points each.  Jill Vallo contributed 10.  Our team continues to improve each game as we move toward league play.  The Horsemen next participate in the Walter Panas Tournament on Thursday, December 14th against Brewster at 4:30.   Please come support our team.  (posted 12/12/06)


The Varsity Girls’ Basketball team lost a close one to the Pelicans of Pelham on Wednesday night, December 6th  by a score of 47 – 43.  The girls were down 9 in the fourth quarter before rallying to tie it with 2 minutes left.  Jackie Motttola led the way with 22 points and Jill Vallo chipped in 13 along with 12 rebounds.  We play next on Monday December 11th at Mamaroneck.  (posted 12/7/06)


The JV Girls’ Basketball team lost its season opener last night to the Pelham Pelicans 26 – 19.  After storming out to a 6-2 first quarter lead, the Horsemen’s charge was derailed by turnovers and foul trouble.  It was apparent that some of the players were flustered as they played in their first game.  Kerry Oliveira paced the team with nine points.  Charlotte Frank added four points.  The JV team is led by tri-captains, Carol Ann Bender, Kerry Oliveira, and Jennifer Angevine.  The girls’ next face off against Mamaroneck on the road on Monday, December 11th.  (posted 12/7/06)


The Varsity Girls' Basketball team finished its holiday tournament with a 42 -32 set back to the girls from Monroe Woodbury.  The team really came together in this tournament and showed a lot of heart with a late comeback but fell a bit short in the championship game.   Tauress Campbell (5 points, 11 rebounds) and Jackie Mottola (10 points, 4 rebounds.) were named to the all tournament team.  Jill Vallo also had a good game with 12 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals & 3 blocks. The Varsity Girls’ Basketball team won its opening night game by a score of 31 – 28 in OT over Alexander Hamilton.  It was a solid team effort with Tauress Campbell leading the way with 9 points and 8 rebounds.  Jackie Mottola had 8 points to go with her 11 rebounds.  Christine Angevine hit a big lay up to get OT started and finished with 8 points and 6 rebounds while Aileen McGee shut down Hamilton’s best player all game long.  Our next game is Saturday at 3:30 in the Sleepy Hollow Holiday Tournament Championship game.  We hope to see you there.  (posted 12/1/06)
