Softball
The Sleepy Hollow Varsity Girls Softball Team has begun their season with great aspirations.  The team returns eleven varsity players with goals of improving on last year’s tremendous progress and qualifying for sectionals.  The ladies have all been practicing hard led by senior captain Lauren Downing and junior captain Christine Angevine who continue to be leaders in determination and consistency.  Commitment and purpose have been the driving forces of the team in early season practices led by seniors Kaitlin Oliveira and Katie McKay.  The team will open its twenty-two game schedule April 3rd against Hastings at home.

Golf
Although spring has not yet brought in the warm weather, the golf team began its practices on March 13th.  This year has brought in a host of new players.  Seventh graders Jim “Boom Boom” Bender and Tom “not Tim” Carraro bring a youthful exuberance to the team.  Sophomore Ian Hummel and junior Rob Caposella hope to contribute to the team this season.  The two veterans, junior Devin Mahoney and sophomore Marco Baran will anchor the team.  These two are expecting breakout years after gradually improving over the past several seasons.  Eighth grader Kelly Bender who was the team’s “rookie of the year” last season continues to improve her play.  Juniors Max Rosen and Carey Robinson will also be competing for playing spots.  The team has its first match at Rockland Country Club on April 4th.  The players are reminded of the tremendous opportunity they have in playing some of the top courses in the area.  “A bad day at golf is better than a good day at work (or school)!”  (Posted 3/27/2006)

Sleepy Hollow Cheerleading Starts Off Strong!
With only 4 seniors, 3 juniors and a host of sophomore and freshman, the winter cheerleading tryouts attracted 33 athletes. Unfortunately we were only able to take 18 girls, which is the largest number of cheerleaders that Sleepy Hollow has had in years. We are off to a great start and the girls are extremely excited about being a part of the team. We made our debut Friday December 2 at the Holiday tournament where we not only performed a number of cheers, but also performed an up beat dance during half-time. So when you come to support the basketball team, don't forget to join in and cheer with us!

Girls Basketball Team
With brimming enthusiasm and energy, tryouts began for the Girls Varsity and JV Basketball Teams on November 14th. All of the members on last years successful JV team moved onto the varsity team for the current season. As a result, the JV team will consist of all new players. What they lack in experience they make up for with enthusiasm.  The girls are working hard in practice preparing for a new league schedule this year. We will open the season with our tournament December 1st and 3rd.
The JV team opens its season on December 6th against Croton-Harmon and has its first home game against a tough Albertus Magnus team on December 9th. Coach Jason Choi hopes to build on last years success and expects the girls to play an up tempo, aggressive style of basket ball.

Some good news!
On May 20, 2005, the High/Middle School Experiential Learning program’s Pioneer League participated in Special Olympics Spring Games at Mahopac High School. Students competed in track and field events. Some events that students participated in were 50,100 meter run and softball throw. Our athletes did an amazing job and should be commenended for all of their hard work.
