Volleyball

The Modified Volleyball team lost their game to Westlake yesterday, October 16th.  With Erin Newland leading as our captain the girls lost with a close 23-25 in the first game.  The 2nd game was led by Melissa Toribio who was on “fire”, as she quoted.  The score was 17-25.  The 3rd game was led by our 7th grade girls, Roslyn, Marina, Megan, and Veronica and even though they played their best, we lost the game  18-25.  Our next game is on Friday, October 20th at Irvington.  (posted 10/18/06)

Modified Volleyball lost to Mamaroneck yesterday October 12th .  We lost the first game 22-25 and then won the second game 25-15.  All the girls played amazing.  Even the officials complemented them on how great they worked together.  We lost the third game with a close 24-26.  I am very proud of the progress our girls have made. Our next game is at Westlake Monday, October 16th. (posted 10/13/06)

The Modified Volleyball team was defeated by Westlake on Friday October 6th.   The first game the team only scored 5-25.  The second game’s score was 15-25, and the final game’s score was a much closer 22-25.  We almost had that last game!  Our next home game is Tuesday October 10th vs. Hastings. Modified Volleyball had an amazing game yesterday, October 4th at Ardsley.  The first game was led by our 8th grade girls and we won 25-23.  Our 2nd game was led by our 7th grade girls and we began to lose some momentum, losing the game 12-25.  The 3rd game was the game that all of our girls, both 8th graders and 7th graders rose to their maximum ability level.  Both the Ardsley coach and myself were sweating as the game heated up.  Melissa Toribio served us up from an 8-19 to 18-19.  The game kept creeping up and we lost 27-29 but we have never been so proud of a loss like this one.  Amazing job girls!  Our next game is on Friday, October 6th at home vs. Westlake. (posted 10/5/06)

The Modified Volleyball team lost its first away game at Port Chester on Thursday, September 28th. Nicole Rjeili and Julia Sutherland made excellent strides toward getting those serves over.  Chabely Gomez was aggressive at the net, as Erin Newland played the court like a true champion.  Krista Creacy, excellent serving, yet again.  Great job girls!  We’ll get them next time.  Our next game is at Ardsley on October 4th.

The Modified Volleyball team defeated Irvington at their first home game on Tuesday, September 26th.  Our eighth grade girls opened up the game with some great serves and were led by Krista as captain.  Unfortunately, we lost the first game 11-25.  However, our second game was led by Katherine Lillis as captain and not only were these 7th graders on a roll, we won 25-12.  Ali London and Catherine served it up!  Our final game was fierce and with a collaborative effort from the entire team, we won 27-25.(posted 10/3/06)

The JV Volleyball team defeated Pearl River in an exciting three game match on Thursday, September 28th.  The team lost a close first game by a score of 25 -22 after missing several serves.  The girls rebounded nicely and defeated the Pirates 25-18 in the second game.  They were supported by the strong serving of freshmen Marta Baran, Rachel Swenson, and Alex Milhaven.  The third and deciding game was very close with the teams battling back and forth.  Sleepy Hollow narrowly edged out Pearl River 26-24 in the final game.  The girls were led by sophomore captain Clare Bucci and Natalie Zaremba.  The team faces off against Hastings on Wednesday, October 4th at Hastings. Congratulations to the Varsity Volleyball team for their 3-1 victory against Briarcliff on Wednesday, September 20th.  The Lady Horsemen remain undefeated at home.  It was another great performance by junior setter Laura Kirschner.  Laura had 19 assists and 5 aces leading the team to their win.  Jill Vallo remained dominant adding 13 more kills to her resume.  Sleepy Hollow won the first game 25-22.  After a slow start in the second game they set out on a relentless pursuit of domination to beat the Bears 25-17.  After suffering a devastating third game defeat and losing senior Captain Nicole Occhipinti to an injury, the team united and together they beat Briarcliff in the fourth and final game 25-20.  If you have yet to watch a volleyball game come next Tuesday, September 26th to support the Sleepy Hollow team in their fight to keep the undefeated home streak alive when we play Irvington.  The team would like to send a huge thanks to all our loyal fans.  (posted 9/21/06)

The JV Volleyball team lost its home opener to Briarcliff on Wednesday, September 20th.  The two teams played an exciting first game which Briarcliff won 25 – 18.  The Sleepy Hollow team passed the ball extremely well.  Anna Wray, Clare Bucci, and Alex Milhaven played a big role in the team’s success.  The team lost the second game 25 -15.  The team has many first year players but, in spite of the loss, they have shown growth and potential.  The next match for the team is Tuesday, September 26th at home vs. Irvington at 6 PM. JV Volleyball began it’s 2006 fall season against Edgemont on September 12th.  The girls got off to a rocky start and the nervousness and anxiety of the first game were evident on their faces.  We lost the first game 25-12.  The girls were more settled in the second games as evidenced by the smiles and laughter on the court.  They played better but still lost the second game 25-17.  Clare Bucci, Anna Wray, and Glenda Urgiles helped to lead the team with their hard work and enthusiasm.  Our next game is on Monday, September 18th at JFK.
