Instructions For Subscribing To The TUFSD On-Line Calendars

The Public Schools of the Tarrytowns maintains an interactive calendar to enhance communication between the school district and the community.  Parents and community members have had many positive comments about the capabilities of this system, but perhaps the greatest potential lies in the ability for parents to subscribe to school and district calendars, thereby receiving email notification any time a calendar changes.  Each school’s calendar is available on its webpage, and school closings and delays are posted to the district feeder calendar, sending email notification of a school delay or cancellation to anyone who has subscribed.  The cancellation information is also posted to the district website and the automated dialer is utilized to call each household at the number(s) provided by parent on the district's electronic emergency card system (K-12 Alerts).

Please follow the simple steps below to subscribe to any of our various calendars.

Instructions for subscribing to our interactive calendars (Note: The district feeder calendar should be subscribed to before subscribing to other calendars)

  1. From the district’s website, click on the “school calendars” link on the left navigation bar (online users may click here)
  2. Click on “district feeder calendar” (or the school calendar to which you wish to subscribe)
  3. When the “district feeder calendar” (or a selected school calendar) is loaded, click on the “subscribe” icon (a finger with a thread around it) at the top left of the screen.
  4. When the subscribe screen is loaded, type your email where indicated, and click in the box labeled “I would like to receive Add/Delete/Change email notifications.”  If you would like to receive reminders of events, click in the box labeled “I would like to receive email reminders of events” and choose your preferred number of days, minutes or hours prior to the event that you would like to receive notification.
  5. Click “subscribe.”
  6. The next screen informs you that your request was accepted and that a confirmation will be sent to your email address. Click “OK”, which closes that window.  There is one step left, and that is to open your email and click on the link sent to you via an automated email message.

Note:  The subscription is not activated until you open the email notification and click on the provided link.  The directions are specific, but failure to click on the link means your subscription will not be activated.

Some of the other features of this calendaring system include the ability for users to: combine calendars from various schools to display as one calendar; search by keyword across multiple calendars; view events of a particular category (i.e. sports, community events); export individual events in vCal format to be used in another program such as Palm Desktop; modify the look of a calendar (i.e. list view, calendar view by day, week, month or year).

To use a school’s interactive calendar, select the “Calendar” link from the left navigation bar of that school’s home page.  Using the “options” menu at the top of the calendar will allow a user to customize the view the calendar(s).  Detailed online help for using the calendaring system is available via a link on the top of each calendar.  I encourage you to take advantage of this new and exciting service.
