Dear Seventh Grade Students:
Summer reading is an important, but often overlooked
part of a student’s education.
Sometimes, unfortunately, the summer slips by and students find that
they have read little or nothing because they were not encouraged to read
anything. To prevent this we are
requiring that you read three books this summer and write a “Record of Reading”
for each book. The format is explained
below.
Requirements:
1. Read at
least THREE books.
2. Choose
books that are on the 7th grade list.
3. Select books
appropriate to your reading abilities.
4. For each
book, write a “Record of Reading” which includes:
Title,
Author, Setting, Main Characters, Conflict, Summary (brief), and Reaction.
5. “Records
of Reading” are due the first Thursday when school starts in the fall.
6. Be
prepared to share your summer reading experiences as directed by your English
teacher.
REMINDER: The purpose of the assignment is to encourage you to do readings which can be tied in with your literary discussions during the school year.
FINALLY:
After you have read the required books, you are encouraged to read
additional books that are
acceptable to you and your
parents/guardian.
Have an enjoyable summer!
Sincerely,
Dan Allen, English Chair
NOTE: If the book you wish to read is not
available in Warner Library, please consult with the librarian for an
appropriate substitute. The librarian
will sign this letter and indicate the title and author of the book you will read.
