    Sleepy Hollow Music Course Offerings

    Music Theory-(One Credit; Grade 9-12) The goal of this course is to aid students in developing their musical skill and understanding through the study of many aspects of common practice music and other stylistic periods.

    Concert Band- (One Credit; grades 9-12) This Band teaches advanced musicianship through exposure to varied repertoire for Concert Band.

    Jazz Ensemble-(One Credit; Grade 9-12) this course....teaches advanced jazz technique through exposure to varied repertoire for Jazz Ensemble.

    Pep Band-.....Helps the Football team win!  Plus sounds great!

    HS Concert Chorus- (One credit; grade 9-12)  Enrollment is open to any serious student singing.  Student will experience quality vocal literature, and wide variety of musical styles, and develop their performing and listening skills.

    Chamber Singers-(half a credit-auditioned admittance grades 9-12).  Students may enroll in this course by audition.  This group is composed of the highest achieving vocal students.  This course will offer performance opportunities outside the school day and well as in.  This group also will perform in a variety of challenging musical styles.  Rehearsals are afterschool on Mondays 3:30-5:00

    MS Concert Chorus- (One credit; grade 6-8) Enrollment is open to any serious student singing.  Student will experience quality vocal literature, and wide variety of musical styles, and develop their performing and listening skills.

    Sleepy Hollow High School Orchestra (One Credit; grade9-12)  The orchestral repertoire represents many styles and eras.  Emphasis is directed toward the development of individual proficiency and musicianship, the art of orchestral performance, and knowledge of musical styles.

    Sleepy Hollow Middle School Orchestras (One Credit; grade 6-8) In the interest of formulating age-appropriate instruction and gearing the rehearsals toward the correct developmental level of the students, three Middle School Orchestras have been formed.  Each student participates in two of the three.  There is the 7/8 Concert Orchestra, the 6/7/8 Intermediate Orchestra and the 6th grade Junior Orchestra.

    Chamber Ensembles:  Middle School and High School Chamber Ensembles in both the Middle School and the High School are formed based on each student’s technical skills and style of playing.  The formation of trios, quartets, quintets, and a small chamber orchestra are all available based on student enrollment.  A wide variety of repertoire is explored in each group and there are many performance opportunities.

     
    Piano ( .5; Grade 9-12)  The goal of this course is to give the opportunity to all students who would like to learn the basic fundamentals of piano and theory.  All levels welcomed!
    Acting (.5; grades 9-12)  This class is open to everyone interested in the basic concepts of theatre and improvisation.  No experience necessary!  Come and have fun!
    Beginning Guitar (.5; Grade 9-12) Students will learn music theory as well as performance techniques on acoustic and electric guitars.
