Board of Education

The Board of Education generally meets twice a month on Thursdays with public sessions beginning at approximately 7:00 pm in the Central Office building (200 North Broadway).   Prior to public sessions, the Board may convene for an Executive Session in the Superintendent's Office. For planning purposes of those attending, if this information is known in advance it will be included in the invitation sent prior to the meeting.

Work Sessions are public meetings of the Board of Education that involve lengthy discussions between the Board of Education and members of the professional staff. These meetings include a brief business meeting followed by a discussion on a particular topic. Community members are encouraged to attend and observe the Board's discussion.    Students are recognized throughout the year.

Executive session is a portion of the meeting that is closed to the public. It's a period where the board can discuss sensitive matters without public scrutiny. Executive sessions are permitted for specific, legally defined reasons.
 

The Board welcomes public participation at meetings but limits speaking time to 3 minutes per person during public comment period (see Policy 1230). Speakers must sign in and may only address matters related to district business or agenda items. Discussions involving individual district personnel or students should be directed to the Superintendent outside of meetings.

Periodically, before a Board of Education meeting, there is a Students of Distinction ceremony.   The Students of Distinction Award honors students in grades 1 through 12 who exemplify academic dedication, outstanding leadership, and exceptional effort in their daily work. These students demonstrate a commitment to learning and serve as positive role models within their school communities.   Each elementary and secondary teacher will select one student from their class who best embodies these qualities to be recognized as a Student of Distinction.
 

Communicating with the Board of Education

The Board of Education always appreciates input from community members. We are available via email at boe@tufsd.org and we invite community members to share their perspectives at our Board meetings during the Community Comments section, either in person or via zoom. The Board will also be hosting office hours once a month - this is an opportunity to speak with a few board members to share concerns, suggestions or questions about the school district. 

Please note that issues relating to an individual student or employee should be directed to the appropriate leaders according to the communications matrix.

Office hours are held from 6:30–7:00 PM. They are typically held in the Superintendent’s Office at the Central Office building (200 North Broadway). Please note that the location may vary at times when Board meetings are scheduled in alternate venues.
