Energy Performance Contract
District-Wide Energy Project Update
We’re making big improvements to our school buildings to save energy, reduce costs, and create more comfortable learning environments. Here’s what’s happening:
Solar Power
We’re installing solar panels to power parts of three school buildings:
- Sleepy Hollow HS/MS (roof): 302 kW
- Tappan Hill (roof): 153 kW
- Washington Irving (parking lot canopy): 256 kW
Why it matters:
Solar energy is clean, renewable, and helps lower our electricity bills. It also teaches students about sustainability and shows our commitment to protecting the environment.
Energy Management Systems
- We’re replacing old control systems with a new system called Schneider EcoStruxure
- Every building gets its own new controller
- No more outdated air controls (pneumatics) – everything will be electronic
- Our staff will be able to manage and adjust the systems directly
- We’re also adding plug load controllers to save even more energy
Why it matters:
This gives the district better control over heating, cooling, and electricity use — helping save money and keep classrooms comfortable.
Lighting Improvements
- Upgrade all recessed troffers to LED kits with integrated controls
- New units automatically adjust to daylight and other fixtures
- Replace fluorescent lamps with LED direct-wire tubes
Why it matters:
Better lighting saves energy, looks great, and adjusts to natural light so it’s easier on the eyes.
Roof Replacements
- Part of the roof at Sleepy Hollow High School/Middle School is being completely replaced
- Old roofing will be removed all the way down to the structure before installing new materials
Why it matters:
A new roof protects the building and supports the installation of solar panels, helping the district move toward clean energy and sustainability.
