Our Goal

The Public Schools of the Tarrytowns Office of Curriculum & Instruction believes that curriculum is a journey, not a written plan. There are multiple pathways to deliver curriculum which then influences learning for our diverse student population. The New York State Learning Standards govern the baseline learning, which is complemented by national standards and individualized learning outcomes.

Our collaborative staff engages in professional development opportunities & initiatives that are primarily focused on Equity Through Access, are driven by data analysis, align learning across the Pre-k through 12th grade continuum and maintain a focus on the social-emotional/academic needs of all learners.

Social Emotional Learning

Social emotional learning and well-being play a pivotal role in determining the overall success of students. Within the Public Schools of the Tarrytowns, our mission is centered around fostering nurturing environments for all students and promptly addressing their individual needs.

This process encompasses the acquisition and proficient application of knowledge, attitudes, and skills by both children and adults. This proficiency enables them to effectively comprehend and navigate their emotions, establish and work towards positive objectives, exhibit and feel empathy towards others, cultivate and sustain healthy relationships, and exercise sound judgment in decision-making.

To guide and enhance our commitment to social emotional learning, the district has chosen to adopt the CASEL framework (Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning). This framework will serve as the foundation for supporting the growth of our students and staff in the realm of social emotional development.

Vertical Alignment

Our K-12 program is designed to equip students with the skills they need to succeed and fulfill their potential as learners within a global society. In pursuit of this crucial goal, the district took a significant step by establishing K-12 vertical teams for core subject areas. These teams have played a pivotal role in fostering collaboration among educators and administrators, enabling them to collectively address targeted curriculum areas, exchange invaluable insights, and craft comprehensive curriculum maps and resource materials.
