Dr. Debbie M. Brand
Principal
Dr. Brand has been an educator for the past twenty-five years, filling many different roles in private and public schools throughout the country. She worked as a(n) English teacher, Girls Varsity Basketball Coach, club advisor, and administrator in New Hampshire, Louisiana, New Jersey and New York.
As an English teacher, Dr. Brand taught diverse high school-level classes and students. Her passions, however, were teaching Creative Writing, AP Language and Composition, and IB Theory of Knowledge, areas which mirrored her personal interests in writing, rhetoric and philosophy.
In her role as a Girls Varsity Basketball Coach, Dr. Brand spent all of her coaching career transforming and revitalizing programs that had histories of diminished interest and poor performance. She led teams that competed perennially in postseason play, was twice chosen as Coach of the Year, and coached several young women who went on to become college athletes and coaches themselves.
Dr.. Brand has also filled diverse roles as an administrator. Before her time at Sleepy Hollow, she worked as an English Department chair in Clarkstown, as an Instructional Leader of Humanities in Middletown, as an Assistant Principal in Yorktown, and as a principal in Highland Falls. During her thirteen years as an administrator, Dr. Brand has led many initiatives, including but not limited to facilitating building-level equity teams, instituting programs to support social and emotional learning, overseeing curriculum and professional development, enhancing transitional programs for new students, implementing 21st century technologies into instruction, creating STEM opportunities in and out of the classroom, and coordinating community outreach programs.
Dr. Brand relishes the opportunity to work with the faculty, staff, students and families of the TUFSD school community. Their diverse experiences and unique perspectives make our district a dynamic and fulfilling place to learn, grow and work.
