    Superintendent Search: Update on Community Input and Next Steps

    We are writing to you with an update on the search for a new district Superintendent, particularly the important information obtained in recent weeks through interviews, focus groups, open forums, and a district-wide survey. A total of 376 people participated in this process representing a variety of audiences including parents and guardians, students, school and community partners, district administration, faculty and staff, and all of the Board of Education trustees. We thank you for taking the time to share their thoughts, which have greatly helped inform the search process.

    This week Washington Irving students are learning that we need to nurture nature to have a nurturing future! Educators from the Greenburgh Nature Center moderated lively discussions and interactive fun sessions all about keeping ourselves and our earth healthy and how we can all be good student stewards to ensure that we leave resources for future generations.

    SHHS Junior to Bring His Passion for Government to Albany at Upcoming Students Inside Albany Conference

    Junior Christian Bravo has been selected to represent the Rivertowns Chapter of the League of Women Voters at the Students Inside Albany (SIA) conference. Hosted by the New York State League of Women Voters Education Foundation, the annual four-day event is scheduled to begin May 21st and will be attended by approximately 60 students from across New York State.

    Mayan Civilization Comes to Life through Personal Experiences and Artifacts

    As part of their Social Studies unit on the Mayan Civilization, Mr. Jacobs' class was visited by class parent, Amanda Ferguson-Cradler, who was able to share first-hand her experiences with the Mayan culture.  With the help of photos and souvenirs, the students learned about her experiences as an exchange student in Guatemala and her visits to the Mayan sites of Tikal and Chichen Itza.

    Sleepy Hollow High School Students Excel at Westchester Science and Engineering Fair

    Sleepy Hollow High School's dedication to science education has once again paid off with a strong showing at the Westchester Science and Engineering Fair. On Saturday, March 18, 2023, the Westchester Science and Engineering fair hosted over 530 high school students from more than 30 Westchester schools.  Sleepy Hollow had 10 students compete in the event. We are proud to share the impressive accomplishments of our Sleepy Hollow students, who stood out among the competition and brought home a range of awards.

    Science Saturday Debuts at Washington Irving and Draws a Crowd

    The first-ever Science Saturday at Washington Irving Elementary School on March 18 was a huge success! Forty-five students in third through fifth grade attended and, along with their parents, were firing on all cylinders!  Science Saturday is a pilot program designed by Washington Irving teacher Mrs. Massaro that puts students in the driver's seat. The goal is that these events be student-led, and that students teach each other about STEM topics within a low-stakes, fun environment that carries none of the pressures of the classroom.

    Audiences Show They Love Conrad - and so Much More - As They Enjoy Sleepy Hollow High School’s Production of Bye, Bye Birdie

    While actual gray skies may have loomed over some of the performances of Bye Bye Birdie at Sleepy Hollow High School this weekend, one glance at the audience showed how this year's musical allowed so many to 'put on a happy face' and leave smiling ear to ear. The 21-person cast, supported by a strong student crew and student musicians, delivered four fantastic performances this weekend.

    TUFSD Supports World Down Syndrome Day With Crazy Socks and an Inclusion Show on Sleepy Hollow Radio

    Some were colorful, some crazy, and some mismatched, and all these socks were proudly worn by teachers and students in support of World Down Syndrome Day on March 21st. In the schools, and on the radio airwaves, the District unified to advocate for the rights, well-being, and inclusion of all people, especially those with Down syndrome.

    Zaida: A Very Special Assembly Led by A SHHS Alumnus

    When Sophie Parens visited Sleepy Hollow High School to present the film, Zaida, to seniors at her alma mater, it was an emotional homecoming. The documentary is about her grandfather, a Holocaust survivor, who had come to the same school in 2013 to speak to Sophie’s senior class about his experiences. Ten years later, she told his story for him.

With Women's History Month in full swing, students were tasked with creating posters that showcased a present-day Changemaker - a woman who is making waves through activism and changing the world for the better.

    Kindergarten Students Get Creative to Catch a Leprechaun

    Do you know how to catch a leprechaun? Some of our kindergarten students are on their trail! They started this adventure earlier this week by completing a writing unit and setting a plan. Then today, they engaged in a STEM activity, putting their creativity and problem-solving skills to work, using a variety of supplies like popsicle sticks, cardboard, pipe cleaners, glue, etc. to build leprechaun traps.

    Students Prepare for Annie Jr. Performance, through Tarrytown Music Hall School Theater Residency

    Get ready to be wowed by the incredible talents of Washington Irving Intermediate School and Sleepy Hollow Middle School students! They're currently taking part in a school theater residency program provided by The Tarrytown Music Hall Academy, which is provided free of charge to all students. With just a few short weeks left until their big debut, these young performers are perfecting their staging, choreography, and teamwork skills to bring you an unforgettable show.

    West Point Bound: Q & A with SHHS Senior Kade Riddle

    Senior Kade Riddle is West Point bound - an accomplishment not achieved by a Sleepy Hollow High School senior in more than a decade. With a unique and competitive application process, West Point reports that about 10,000 students start the application process and only a little over 1,000 are admitted. Kade receives many questions about his desire and decision to attend West Point and, as a tribute to him and his incredibly hard work, we are pleased to share those questions with his responses.
