First grade students were out of their seats and moving to various genres of music as they participated in a virtual dance program called the Diversity of Dance. Performed by Reaction Dance Company, two professional dancers led students throughout this interactive assembly. Tracing their way through Jamaica, South Korea, Latin America, and India, students experienced the creation and transformation of hip-hop throughout the world. Students watched and participated in thrilling dance performances created to inspire students to push boundaries and embrace diversity.
Teacher Maureen Salazar helped to identify the program and bring the assembly to the school. "We thought this would be a great way to teach students the power of embracing cultural diversity through dance and appreciate dance as an art form," said Ms. Salazar.
Students were on their feet and engaged throughout the assembly. All that learning also turned out to be a great deal of fun!
