Helping Those in Need

Fifth-grade students from Washington Irving were honored on January 23, by Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner and the Town Council for reaching out to the community.

The students collected more than one 1,000 pairs of socks from all over the District as part of Socktober. The national movement draws awareness to the needs of those who are less fortunate. Studies show that socks and underwear are the least donated items.

During tonight’s presentation students received certificates for their efforts and encouraging words to continue to help others.

Student Gabriel Spector said,” If we give people things that we might have a little too much of, and they don’t have enough of, that can make us all equal”.

Librarian Keri DiLascio organized the drive with the support of WI Principal Thomas Holland.

The following students were recognized for their participation: Gabriel Spector, Annabelle Hutson, Ava Mendez, Eoghan Glynn, Marley DeFilippis, Connor Babooran, Cailiegh Coffey, Courtney Coffey and Maeve Yox.
