Tarrytown Arts Camp

Tarrytown Arts Camp is back with some new offerings, including a one-week music intensive for middle school students with musical experience!  All camps now open for registration!

Music atTAC-July 8-12, Grades 6-8 (Sept 2019)

A week of just music for musically inclined students.  Campers will explore a wide variety of musical styles including jazz, funk, pop, and world music.  The week will consist of ensemble playing, improvisation, rhythm, ear-training, music theory, and a chance to hone skills on a particular instrument or voice.

 

***Students must have two years of school musical experience and/or demonstrate adequate skills on their instrument or voice.

Multi Arts Camp-July 8-26, Grades K-4

 

Our theme this year “The Americas” will bring more multi-cultural programming to our district, highlighting traditions from the USA, BRAZIL, and MEXICO with renowned artists from the NYC area.  Daily rotating activities will include music, theater, dance, martial arts, yoga, and visual arts. Weekly cultural themes link music, art, and movement with traditions from around the world, each themed week concluding with a special exhibit and open sharings.  Grouped by age. 

 

Half day option (bring a snack)  M-F 9am-12pm @ Sleepy Hollow High School

 

Wk 1 USA (BLUEGRASS): July 8-12. 

Wk 2 BRAZIL (CAPOEIRA combining music, dance, and martial arts: July 15-19. 

Wk 3 MEXICO (JAROCHO music and dance tradition from Veracruz): July 22-26. 

Register for any or all weeks.

 

**FULL DAY OPTION: 9-2:30pm (Bring a lunch) Grades 1-4

Multi Arts mornings followed by Hispanic Music Afternoons led by Folklore Urbano NYC’s Cumbia for Kids: drumming, singing, Spanish language and culture, movement to Latin rhythms.

Clay Camp- July 8-12, 15-19

 

Week-long hands-on opportunity to see your imagination come to life!

Everyone will have a chance on the potter’s wheel to make projects using various methods while learning how to add pattern, texture and glaze. Campers will make pinch pots and use the extruder and slab roller to create bowls, mugs, boxes or other containers. Finished projects go home at the end of the week. Campers grouped by age. 

 

Wk 1: July 8-12. Wk 2: July 15-19. M-F 9:15am-2:30pm @ Sleepy Hollow High School

Architecture Camp-July 22-26

Does your child like to build stuff? Explore their surroundings? If so, have them join us for a fun week of hands-on, minds-on projects that are grounded in architecture and design. Campers will team-up on group activities and create out-of-the-box individual projects, using all kinds of materials to build animal habitats, space colonies, fantasy waterfront development, tree houses, bridges, space ships, etc. The camp is designed to sharpen critical thinking skills, naturally incorporate problem-solving abilities and spark creativity. Led by ArchForKids (www.archforkids.com) 

July 22-26. One week only. 9:15-2:30pm @ Sleepy Hollow High School.

Hudson Valley Rising Writers-Creative Writing Workshop-Fridays in July, July 5, 12, 19, 26

In this multi-genre creative writing course for 6th-8th graders, students will engage in generative writing exercises and activities; read and discuss contemporary work by young writers; and practice providing feedback to their peers in a safe, positive environment. During fun, exploratory, and engaging weekly sessions, students will work toward producing a final portfolio of their own original poetry and prose. A culminating  reading will be open to friends and family during the last hour of the final class session.  In partnership with the historic Hudson Valley Writers’ Center in Sleepy Hollow, camp takes place at the center, in the historic Philips Manor train station in Sleepy Hollow.
