College Bound Recognition Day

Congratulations to seven Sleepy Hollow High School students who will continue to play their sport in college. April 12, Athletic Director Denise Kiernan congratulated the athletes during a ceremony attended by District leaders, teammates, families, and friends.

“The role of a college athlete requires determination, desire and focus,” said Kiernan. “Sleepy Hollow will always be your family. Your best experiences have probably occurred in high school. Take them with you and make Sleepy Hollow proud.”

The following students are were recognized:

 Kevin Campuzano: Alfred State University/Football Division III.  A knee injury interrupted Kevin’s football career at SHHS but he returned to the team as a senior and was named a captain of the team. Kevin worked hard on and off the field and will have an immediate opportunity to compete in college. Coach: Jorge Veintimilla

Rene Hernandez: Springfield College/Men’s Gymnastics Division I (D3 School). Rene became a gymnast at age nine and continues to practice four hours a day, five days a week. He competes with World Cup Gymnastics and is an All-Around competitor in the sport of gymnastics.

Cyrus Margano: University of Denver/Men’s Soccer Division I. Cyrus’ passion for soccer started in fourth grade. He has played with SH for one year, competes for the Metropolitan Oval Club Team in Queens and had played in Italy. This spring he will play in Germany with the University of Denver team.  

 Sophia Meyer: University of Scranton/Women’s lacrosse Division III. Sophia was named co-captain of the SHHS girls’ lacrosse team for past two years. She started playing at the varsity level at the end of eight grade. She scored her 100th goal of an assist from her teammate and younger sister Bella. Coach: Blair Moynahan

Cameron O’Loughlin: Fairleigh Dickinson University/Football Division III. Cameron exemplifies what it means to be committed and to be a leader. He worked his way into the starting line-up and has accepted any role that the team needed him to fill: special teams, receiver, outside linebacker. He is a consummate team player. Coach: Jorge Veintimilla

Jasmine Pena: Western Connecticut University/Women’s Lacrosse Division III. Jasmine is a four-year varsity player and three-year starter. She communicates with her goalies and prevents opponents from scoring. Jasmine’s intensity on the field makes her stand out. Coach: Blair Moynahan

Daniel Williams: Mt. Saint Mary’s College/Men’s Basketball Division III. Daniel is one of the leading scorers of all time at Sleepy Hollow with 867 points over his three-year varsity career. Daniel led the team in scoring, rebounding, steals and blocks his junior and senior years. Dan missed only one practice in three years. Coach: Chris Starace
