Families gathered around tables in the Sleepy Hollow High School cafeteria at the annual International Banquet and enjoyed dishes from around the world.
The Foreign Language Honor Society hosted the banquet on Oct. 10, to unite the community as it celebrated the many different cultures that comprise the Public Schools of the Tarrytowns.
Honor Society Advisor Elena Pousada said, “The International Banquet combines two very important human activities: eating and socializing with members of one’s community. It is virtually impossible to share food with someone and not establish a connection with that person.”
She continued, “Enjoying food from diverse cultures also opens our minds and hearts to different ways of being, which ultimately help to foster peace and understanding.”
Parents, teachers and local eateries donated a variety of dishes.
Proceeds from the evening will fund Foreign Language Department Scholarships.
