As we are all well aware, recent events across the country, but particularly here in our own District, have raised questions and concerns regarding school safety and security. In response to these concerns, the Board of Education will be sponsoring an informational session focused on school safety and security on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 beginning at 7:00 PM in the SHHS auditorium. We invite you to come and hear from our superintendent, local first responders, security consultants, and members of our district safety team regarding areas of concern such as:
Are our schools safe?
What measures are put in place at our schools to protect against an active threat?
What training do teachers and school staff receive?
What is the difference between a lockdown, lockout and other safety protocols?
How often do the schools practice the various safety protocols?
What can students do to promote a safe and secure school environment?
What should parents do when they hear of the implementation of a safety protocol, such as a lockdown occurring in school?
What emotional supports are available during times of crisis?
We hope that you will be able to join us at this informational session. In order to better structure the session we ask that questions be submitted in advance, prior to February 3, 2020 at 9:00 pm to Safety Questions, or upon arrival to the meeting, prior to 6:50 pm. If we are unable to answer any questions because they relate to student privacy or confidential information contained within our building-level emergency plans, we will still acknowledge these questions. The content of these plans is confidential under NYS regulations.
