Message from the Superintendent
December 3, 2020
Dear TUFSD Families & Staff,
I am glad to report that we completed our mandated testing of 20% of our in-person staff and students today with Cohort B, administering 172 additional tests. In total the District administered 420 SARS-CoV-2 rapid antigen tests to students, faculty, and staff. Between Monday and today, these tests yielded six positive results. This represents a 1.4% positivity rate which is significantly lower than the positivity rate within our community which has ranged from 8.8 to 4.7% since our designation as a Yellow Zone microcluster.
In accordance with the revised guidance from the New York State Department of Health, which I have excerpted below, we will no longer need to test in-person students and staff as long as we remain a Yellow Zone:
Effective the week of November 16, 2020, schools in yellow zones must test 20% of in-person students, faculty and staff over the two-week period immediately following the announcement of a yellow zone designation. If the results of the testing reveal that the positivity rate among the 20% of those tested is lower than the yellow zone’s current 7-day positivity rate, testing at that school will no longer be required to continue. A positivity rate in a school that is lower than in the yellow zone is a sufficient demonstration that in-person instruction is not a significant driver of local viral spread.
As referred to above, the testing today yielded one additional Morse student testing positive for COVID-19 and the District has notified the Westchester County Department of Health. The student is currently in quarantine. Since they have not been in school recently there are no potential exposures for Mr. Dorn’s office to notify.
Thank you again to our students, families, and staff for their participation in this process and to the TUFSD staff and volunteers who facilitated the administration of these COVID tests.
Should you have any questions, please contact Mr. Dorn at 914-332-6253.
