Message from the Superintendent

December 4, 2020

Dear TUFSD Families and Staff:

On behalf of Mr. Dorn, myself and the entire administration, I want to extend our sincere thanks for your cooperation with the in-school SARS-CoV-2 rapid antigen testing we conducted this week. As I shared in my update yesterday, the District administered 420 tests to students, faculty, and staff which yielded only six positive results. This represents a 1.4% positivity rate, which is far less than the percentage in the community and, in accordance with the NYS Department of Health, allows us to discontinue testing at this time. Your willingness to participate in the tests has allowed the district to remain open and keep our students in school and we appreciate all that you are doing to remain vigilant in your daily lives.

Following are updates for the coming week:

Schedule for Week of December 7: Schools are closed for all hybrid and remote students on Friday, December 11 for a Superintendent's Conference Day. Cohort A will report to school on Monday and Tuesday, December 7 and 8, and Cohort B will attend on Wednesday and Thursday, December 9 and 10. Please continue to check this calendar for the most up to date information

Change to Grab & Go Food Service: As previously communicated, the grab and go service on Tuesday and Friday afternoons was discontinued. All meals must be preordered for all remote and hybrid students. Meals will continue to be made available for all in-person students. Meals can be picked up from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM on Tuesdays and Fridays from the Middle School main entrance. Order forms must be submitted by no later than 12:00 Midnight on Monday and Thursday (the evening before). The pre order form can be found here. Please contact Maria Filippelli with any questions at (914) 631-2553.

Advocacy Efforts for State and Federal Funding: The pandemic has resulted in great uncertainty regarding state and federal funding for education throughout New York State, including here in our own district. The Westchester Putnam School Board Association has put together simple advocacy e-letters through itsa Voter Voice page.  We encourage you to consider taking a few moments to share your voice with our representatives in Albany and Washington. Simply click here to select and send advocacy letters in support of public education.

Parent/Guardian Participation in District Hiring: We appreciate the valuable role that parents and guardians have played in building our talent and hiring quality staff members through participation in our hiring committees. We hope that you will consider this important role in the future. We will be holding our last two remote training sessions on December 8, 2020 to train for these hiring committees and only those who have been trained will be able to participate. For more information and dates, please read this informative letter in English or Spanish.

CDC Recommendation and Holiday Travel Advisory: If you traveled for the Thanksgiving holiday or plan to travel over the Holiday Recess, it is imperative that you abide by the New York State mandates. To reiterate, New York State now requires individuals traveling to any state that does not border NY to quarantine for 14 days when reentering the state, unless travel is done within a 24-hour period. Travelers can also “test out” of the 14-day restriction by testing within 72 hours of departing for NY, and then quarantining for three days upon arrival. On the fourth day after arrival the traveler must test again and upon getting a second negative test result are no longer required to quarantine. We take your safety and that of our school community very seriously and appreciate your adherence to these guidelines.

I hope that everyone has an enjoyable and safe weekend.  As always, remember to practice the “Big 3”: wear a mask, wash/sanitize your hands, and practice social distancing.

Sincerely,

Chris Borsari
Superintendent
