Message from the Superintendent

February 27, 2022

Dear TUFSD Families and Staff,

During a press conference this afternoon, Governor Hochul announced that the school mask mandate in New York would no longer be in effect beginning this Wednesday, March 2, 2022.  As a result, on Wednesday, the wearing of masks by students and staff will be a personal/family decision. However, on Monday and Tuesday of this week, masks will still be required to be worn in our buildings and on our buses.

The Governor stated that this decision was based upon improved COVID metrics across the state as well as the new CDC masking guidelines issued on Friday. While not unexpected, this raises numerous questions to which we will be seeking clarification. This will begin tomorrow at our weekly Monday morning meeting with George Latimer and the Westchester County team. We will continue to keep you updated on any additional changes/information.

We appreciate that our students and staff will make the masking decision that is best for them and expect that our TUFSD community will respect everyone’s personal choices.

We look forward to seeing our students and staff back tomorrow. As a reminder, please use the rapid COVID-19 tests distributed prior to Winter Recess to test before returning to school tomorrow, February 28th.  If you receive a positive test result, please stay home and report it to your building principal and Mr. Dorn (sdorn@tufsd.org).

Sincerely,

Chris Borsari
Superintendent of Schools
