Special Update from Board President John Paine

November 18, 2022

Dear Community Members:

It is an axiom among all philosophers that the only constant thing in life is change. Here in our communities we all have experience with this, especially in the last few years. At our Board of Education meeting last evening, our community learned of another change, this time in the leadership of our school district.

Our superintendent, Christopher Borsari, shared that he will be moving to a new stage in his life, and has decided not to renew his contract at the end of the 2022-2023 school year. We greatly value the leadership and vision that Mr. Borsari has provided these past seven years and appreciate the time he has spent with us. His guidance has been instrumental in the significant improvements we have made together, including the strong and diverse administrative team in place, and overcoming the tremendous challenges we have faced over the course of his tenure.

To that end, our administrators, faculty and staff have worked incredibly hard to maintain stability in our district and, without question, that stability helped create the vibrant and successful district we have today.

As we move into the process to find our next superintendent, we intend to seek input from our entire community and district stakeholders. In the coming weeks, we will release a timeline of this process with milestones, an invitation to participate in the process and, ultimately, a vision for the superintendent we seek.

While we regret Mr. Borsari’s upcoming departure, we recognize that we have an opportunity ahead of us to ensure that the leadership and future direction of the Union Free School District of the Tarrytowns is right for our villages, our faculty and staff, and most importantly, our children. Please join me in wishing Mr. Borsari well - and in this exciting effort!

For the Board of Education,
John Paine, President
