Superintendent's Update: December 16, 2022

December 16, 2022

Dear TUFSD Families and Staff:

While we are quickly approaching the end of 2022 and beginning to enjoy the holiday season with concerts and celebrations across the district, our learning opportunities haven’t slowed at all. Just yesterday, our kindergarten students transformed their classroom to the ‘Starbooks Cafe’, a place where guests were greeted by students and then placed their order for a snack. We also had the opportunity to hear six students read aloud from a picture book that they wrote and illustrated. All students then sat with an adult to read their books. It’s amazing to see our youngest students developing their abilities to read, write, and speak. We were all incredibly proud of them.

Also, our second graders took a field trip this week to the Katonah Museum of Art where they not only learned about a local illustrator and author, Jerry Pinkney, but then took the paintbrush into their own hands to create watercolors inspired by his work. The theme of Mr. Pinkney’s exhibit is ‘Tenacity and Resilience' and highlights his books which encompass issues of social justice, resilience, and tenacity in the face of adversity. Meanwhile, our sixth grade students also enjoyed a class trip to the King Tut Exhibit in Manhattan. Students learned about King Tut and ancient Egypt, as well as the many archeological expeditions to uncover his tomb. It’s wonderful to have our students able to take these trips again, not just for the learning opportunities but for the memories they create.

Following are a number of important updates and information about next week:
