Superintendent's Update: January 6, 2023

January 6, 2023

Dear TUFSD Families and Staff:

Let me start by wishing all of you a Happy and Healthy New Year! I hope you enjoyed the break and that the holidays were good to each and every one of you. It was a pleasure to welcome our faculty, staff and students back this week. We’ve now settled back into our daily routines and look forward to many exciting events, including the JSHS Practice Night, Middle/High School Band Concert and the Middle School Musical, Peter Pan. We also had the pleasure of welcoming back seven of our recent alumni for Alumni Dialogue Day, where they participated in a panel discussion about their college experience. This impressive group spoke about a wide range of topics from choosing a school to having a roommate to balancing work and social life. You can read a full article on this experience on our website.

With the new year comes a renewed focus on the district’s budget and planning for the school year ahead. Our leadership team has actually been working on the 2023-24 budget for the past few months and making considerable progress. We will be having a preliminary budget discussion at our Board of Education meeting on January 26th.

Following are a number of important updates and information about the coming weeks:

Martin Luther King Day: Our schools will be closed on Monday, January 16th in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.  Schools will reopen on Tuesday, January 17th.

JSHS Practice Night: Our senior science research students are practicing for the Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS) competition. Students are required to present their research as a 12-minute presentation. In order to give our seniors a chance to practice before a real audience, we will be hosting JSHS Practice Night at SHHS on TUESDAY, Jan 10 at 7:00pm.  PLEASE join us to view presentations, offer feedback and ask questions.  Please see this link for additional information.

Board of Education Meeting: Our next Board of Education Meeting will be held on Thursday, January 12th at 8:00PM in the District Office. You can attend in person or watch by clicking on this link.

2023-24 Universal Pre-K (UPK) Applications: UPK Lottery Applications are open to the families in our community. If your child will be 4 years old by December 1, 2023, please consider applying to be a part of our lottery for the Elizabeth Mascia Child Care Center PreKindergarten Program at John Paulding School. The application can be found at the JP UPK Lottery Application Website

Sleepy Hollow Snow Angels: This program was created by the Sleepy Hollow PBA and the Sleepy Hollow Fire Department. It is a volunteer program that will help senior citizens during hazardous weather. They are seeking both people to apply who need assistance, as well as volunteers.  Please see this link for additional information.

Respiratory Illness Information: With winter approaching we wanted to share this information regarding the signs and symptoms of various respiratory illnesses which are impacting our region. As always, if you or your child become ill, please contact your medical provider.

COVID+ Reporting: Please report any COVID positive cases to your building principal and school nurse.

Rapid COVID Tests: If you are in need of additional tests for your child, please complete the following Google Form and we will be able to provide you with additional tests.

I hope you have a great weekend.
