8th Grade Peer Leadership Visits Caramoor To Celebrate Lunar New Year
The 8th Grade Peer Leadership group took a trip to the Caramoor Center for the Arts in Katonah where they engaged with Asian culture through music and by viewing and discussing Asian artworks in the Rosen House Museum all in celebration of Lunar New Year.
The students began by exploring sounds connected to the Lunar New Year by playing boomwhackers using the pentatonic scale. They were then treated to a performance of a Korean folk tune, featuring the long Japanese board zither called a koto. The students toured the Rosen House which includes an impressive collection of Asian artwork and Asian decor. Afterwards, the Peer Leadership students congregated in groups to create their own Asian inspired works to represent Asian storytelling. The 8th Grade Peer Leadership will share their experiences with 6th grade students back at SHMS in the near future.
