March Madness: Tournament of Books at WI Fuels Excitement for Reading and Character-Building

On March 1st, Washington Irving kicked off their March Madness: Tournament of Books with a fun basketball-themed assembly.  Run similar to the NCAA College March Madness, the Tournament of Books features 16 books that support the Horsemen Pride Character Ed themes, which are values that the school promotes to help students develop positive character traits.

Throughout the month of March, students will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite book. The voting process will take place over several rounds, with the winner of each round advancing to the next round until a final winner is determined.  Students will vote for their favorites over the month to find WI's Book of the Year.

For the first 16 days, students will be introduced to a new book daily. Every other school day, students will be able to vote for their favorite.  The winner of that bracket will move on to the next voting cycle where it is narrowed down to the Elite 8, then Final 4, and then the Championship, where we will crown our winner on March 31st.

For the first 16 days of the tournament, a new book will be introduced to the students each day. Then, every other school day, students will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite book in the bracket. The winner of each bracket will move on to the next round until only one book remains, which will be crowned the WI Book of the Year on March 31st.

This event is a fun and engaging way to encourage students to read, promote positive character development, and build a sense of community within the school. It also fosters a sense of healthy competition and excitement among students as they vote for their favorite books and cheer on their favorites throughout the tournament.  Stay tuned to see what book is crowned the winner in the Championship Round!
