Superintendent's Update: March 3, 2023
March 3, 2023
Dear TUFSD Families and Staff:
This Wednesday marked Inclusion Day 2023 and our entire district paused to consider what it means to be inclusive, kind and accepting of others. Hundreds of our students, faculty and staff signed a pledge on large sheets of paper and it was very powerful to see the names of so many people making this important commitment. I hope you’ll take a minute to read more on our website and to look at the many photos on our social media accounts.
I’m also happy to share that the valedictorian and salutatorian for the Class of 2023 have been announced. Please join me in congratulating Valedictorian Carter Grose and Salutatorian Isabella Levine, both of whom have been enrolled in the Public Schools of the Tarrytowns since pre-kindergarten. In addition to their academic success, they have pursued extra-curricular activities in the arts and athletics and given back to the school and community through volunteerism. As we further develop the District's Strategic Plan and consider the attributes that we seek to encourage among graduates, Carter and Bella are wonderful examples of those who show curiosity, perseverance and civic mindedness.
Following are a number of important updates and information about the coming weeks:
Superintendent's Conference Day: Monday, March 13th is a Superintendent’s Conference Day. There will be no school for students on Monday, March 13th.
March is Kindness and Inclusion Month: On Tuesday, March 21st students will celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Day. Individuals with Down Syndrome have an extra chromosome. (3 - 21 chromosomes - which is why we celebrate on 3/21). Since chromosomes can look like socks - we will be having a district-wide crazy sock day to raise awareness. Friday, March 31st will be our district-wide Autism Acceptance celebration. We urge all students and staff to wear rainbow and/or tie-dye to school to celebrate the beauty in the diverse spectrum of the human mind and autism spectrum.
Bye Bye Birdie: The Sleepy Hollow High School Drama Club has been hard at work on their production of Bye Bye Birdie. They will be performing it on March 24th, 25th, and 26th in the Kusel Auditorium of Sleepy Hollow High School. Please click on this link for more information.
Peabody Preserve Spring Programs: The Friends of Peabody are pleased to offer the Spring Programs in the district’s outdoor classroom. Please use this link (English) (Spanish) to see all of the offerings coming your way, from learning from talented 8th graders how to make seed bombs to performing in a production in the woods of Alice in Wonderland!
