Superintendent's Update: April 21, 2023

April 21, 2023

Dear TUFSD Community and Staff:

Last week I shared that the administrative team was finalizing the district's 2023-24 school year budget to present to the Board of Education at the April 18th meeting. I’m pleased to share that the Board adopted the proposed budget, which stays within the tax cap and provides the resources to maintain all curricular and extracurricular programs. What’s more, it provides funds to innovate curriculum, enhance social emotional and ELL programs, and maintain our historic buildings. I encourage you to review the presentation that was shared and to mark your calendars for the budget vote and trustee election on Tuesday, May 16th.

I want to thank the community members, along with our District Equity Team, who participated in the recent meeting with our partners at the Equity Literacy Institute to learn about our progress and how our ongoing work will positively impact our students and community. Please visit our website to learn more about this partnership and the work being done to promote equity in our schools.

Following are several important updates and information about the coming weeks:

Community Wardrobe Shopping Days: Community Wardrobe is a committee of the Horsemen PTA that offers quality clothing, footwear, and accessories for free to our TUFSD families and other neighbors in a dignified, boutique-like setting. "Shopping" days (no money required) are coming soon to their brand new home at 222 North Washington Street on April 27, 28, 29, and 30th. Families must sign up here to make an appointment. In closing, I want to recognize the many high school students who were inducted into honor societies this past week and will be in the near future. In addition to recognizing students’ academic success, these honor societies - ranging from the arts, to social studies to English - help celebrate our students’ passions. Congratulations to all. For those of you who celebrated Eid-al-Fitr this week, marking the end of Ramadan, we hope you enjoyed this holiday season.

Sincerely,

Chris Borsari
