Superintendent's Update: May 5, 2023

Dear TUFSD Community and Staff:

Prepare EVERY student for life, learning and work beyond school. This simple, yet powerful statement underpins the district’s five-year Strategic Coherence Plan. The plan, which was presented at the Board of Education meeting last night, also details the type of deep learning to which we are committed and will develop the attributes and life-long skills that are essential for the future success of all of our graduates. Many thanks to the parents, community members, faculty, staff, and administrators who dedicated their time and good thinking to this process.  I encourage you to take a few minutes to look at the presentation and learn a bit more about our Vision of a Graduate.

Last evening was also the Public Budget Hearing for the district’s proposed budget for the 2023-2024 school year. We are proposing a budget of $93,473,676 and a 3.08% tax levy increase, which is below the tax levy limit of 4.84%. There are a number of documents on our website, including a Q&A, detailing what is included in the budget and providing information about commonly asked questions. What’s more, the annual budget newsletter will be arriving via mail to each residence in the TUFSD next week. Keep an eye out for it, and remember that the annual Budget Vote and Trustee Election will be held on Tuesday, May 16th from 7:00am - 9:00pm at Morse and Washington Irving.

 

Following are several important updates and information about the coming weeks:

Benefit Concert: The Hudson Valley Wind Ensemble and the Sleepy Hollow High School Band will be holding a combined concert on Sunday, May 14th at 4:30PM at the Kusel Auditorium of Sleepy Hollow HS. The concert will benefit the Sleepy Hollow Performing Arts Boosters.  Please see the attached flier for additional details.

Rivertowns Parents Event: The Potent Truth: This event, sponsored by the Rivertowns Parents is open to all and will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2023 in the Sleepy Hollow High School Auditorium from 6:30pm-8:00pm. We invite you to participate in a conversation on the current drug and alcohol trends affecting today's teenagers. Our discussion will cover a range of topics, including high-potency marijuana, edibles, contaminants, prescription pills, and the potential effects of these substances on the developing brain and body. As parents, it is essential to stay informed and learn effective ways to talk to our teens about these issues.

Pocantico Center Free Community Day: We wanted to let you know about @pocanticocenter's inaugural Community Day on May 20 from 11 a.m.–4 p.m.!  The event is free, and registration is open!  See the attached flier for additional details .

Class of 2023 Yard Signs: Please use this Class of 2023 link to show your Sleepy pride. Other members of the community can purchase a sign or make a donation so that all members of the Class of 2023 receive a sign. Our goal is to give a sign to every member of the class of 2023. Signs will be distributed to seniors after the Rose Ceremony on May 25th, and delivered to other schools / elsewhere in the community after the Rose Ceremony. Thank you to the PTA for organizing this sale, and for helping offset costs to make it accessible for more families.  

Peabody Preserve Spring Programs: Peabody Preserve Spring Programs: The Friends of Peabody are pleased to offer the Spring Programs in the district’s outdoor classroom. Please use this link (English) (Spanish) to see all of the offerings coming your way, from learning from talented 8th graders how to make seed bombs to performing in a production in the woods of Alice in Wonderland! We are also looking for volunteers to assist with our Community Work Day.  SHHS students can get community service hours. See these links (English) (Spanish)  for further details.

NYSDOH COVID News for Schools: Please see the attached informational newsletter from the New York State Department of Health that highlights important information, tools, and resources for COVID-19 mitigation in school communities.

COVID+ Reporting: Please report any COVID positive cases to your building principal and school nurse.

Rapid COVID Tests: If you are in need of additional tests for your child, please complete the following Google Form and we will be able to provide you with additional tests.

Querida Comunidad y Personal de TUFSD:

Preparar a CADA estudiante para la vida, el aprendizaje y el trabajo más allá de la escuela. Esta simple, pero poderosa afirmación sustenta el Plan de Coherencia Estratégica de 5 años. El plan, el cual fue presentado en la reunión de la Junta de Educación de la noche anterior, también detalla el tipo de aprendizaje profundo con el que estamos comprometidos y que desarrollará los atributos y habilidades para toda la vida que son esenciales para el éxito futuro de todos nuestros graduados.  Muchas gracias a los padres, miembros de la comunidad, al profesorado, al personal y los administradores quienes dedicaron su tiempo y sus buenas ideas a este proceso.  Les animo a que se tomen unos minutos para ver la presentación y a conocer un poco más acerca de la Visión del Graduado.

La tarde anterior también se llevó a cabo la Audiencia Pública del Presupuesto para el presupuesto del distrito del año escolar  2023-2024.   Estamos proponiendo un presupuesto de $93,473,676 y un incremento de impuestos de 3.08%, el cual está por debajo del límite de impuestos del 4.84%.  Hay una serie de documentos en nuestra página web, incluyendo P & R, detallando lo que está incluido en el presupuesto y proporciona información acerca de las preguntas más frecuentes. Adicionalmente, el boletín del presupuesto anual estará llegando por correo a cada residencia en el TUFSD la próxima semana.  Esté atento a esto, y recuerde que el Voto del Presupuesto anual y la Elección de los Miembros se llevará a cabo el martes, 16 de mayo de  7:00 am - 9:00 pm en la  Morse and Washington Irving.

A continuación se describen varias actualizaciones importantes e información sobre las próximas semanas:

Evento de los Padres de Rivertowns: La Verdad Potente: Este evento, patrocinado por los padres de River Towns está abierto a todos y será realizado el martes, 18 de mayo, de 2023 en el Auditorio de la High School de Sleepy Hollow desde 6:30 pm- 8:00 pm. Le invitamos a participar en una conversación sobre las tendencias actuales de drogas y alcohol que afectan a los adolescentes de hoy. Nuestra discusión cubrirá una variedad de temas, incluyendo marihuana de alta-potencia, comestibles, contaminantes, pastillas recetadas, y los efectos potenciales de estas sustancias en el cerebro y el cuerpo en desarrollo. Como padres, es esencial mantenerse informados y aprender formas eficaces de hablar con nuestros adolescentes sobre estos temas.

Día Gratuito para la Comunidad en el Pocantico Center: ¡Queremos informarte sobre el Día de la Comunidad inaugural del @pocanticocenter, que se celebrará el 20 de mayo de 11 a.m.–4 p.m.!   El evento es gratuito y la inscripción está abierta.  Vea el volante adjunto para más detalles.

Letreros de Jardín para la Clase 2023: Por favor use este enlace Clase de 2023 para mostrar su orgullo Sleepy.  Otros miembros de la comunidad pueden comprar un letrero o hacer una donación para que todos los miembros de la Clase de 2023 reciban un letrero. Nuestro objetivo es dar un letrero a cada miembro de la clase de 2023. Los letreros se distribuirán a los estudiantes de último año después de la Ceremonia de las Rosas del 25 de mayo, y se entregarán a otras escuelas/otros lugares de la comunidad después de la Ceremonia de las Rosas. Gracias a la PTA por la organización de esta venta, y por ayudar a compensar los costos para que sea accesible para más familias. 

Programas de Primavera de la Preserva de Peabody: Los Amigos de Peabody se complacen en ofrecer los Programas de Primavera en el salón de clase al aire libre del distrito. ¡Por favor, utilice este enlace (Inglés) (Español) para ver todas las ofertas que vienen en camino, desde aprender de talentosos estudiantes de 8 º grado cómo hacer bombas de semillas hasta a actuar en una producción en el bosque de Alicia en el País de las Maravillas! También estamos buscando voluntarios para ayudar con nuestro Día de Trabajo Comunitario.  Los estudiantes de SHHS pueden obtener horas de servicio comunitario. Noticias COVID del NYSDOH para las Escuelas: Por favor vea el boletín informativo adjunto del Departamento de Salud del Estado de Nueva York que destaca información importante, las herramientas y los recursos para la mitigación de COVID-19 en las comunidades escolares.

Notificación de COVID Positivo: Por favor reporte cualquier caso positivo de COVID al director de su escuela y a la enfermera escolar.

Pruebas rápidas de COVID: Si usted está en necesidad de pruebas adicionales para su hijo, por favor complete el siguiente formulario de Google y podremos proporcionarle pruebas adicionales.
