THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS OF THE TARRYTOWNS NAMES DR. RAYMOND SANCHEZ AS NEXT SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS
Sleepy Hollow, NY, May 17, 2023 -- The Public Schools of the Tarrytowns are proud to announce that Dr. Raymond Sanchez has been selected as Superintendent of Schools. The Board of Education will convene at a special meeting on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, to finalize the appointment of Dr. Sanchez, who stands as the finalist pending completion of this meeting. Dr. Sanchez will succeed Superintendent Chris Borsari who announced his retirement in November of 2022 and will complete his term on June 30, 2023.
Dr. Sanchez will join the Public Schools of the Tarrytowns from the Ossining Union Free School District where he has served in a variety of roles for the past two decades. As Ossining’s Superintendent of Schools since 2013, Dr. Sanchez has enhanced the quality of education throughout the district by supporting innovation and responding to the diverse needs of its student population. He also prioritized building trust and forging partnerships with faculty, staff, and the larger community. To that end, he helped conceptualize OPrime, a community school hub connecting families to services and resources and initiated Ossining’s participation in My Brother’s Keeper, a program that connects boys and young men of color with support networks to build college and career readiness skills.

Dr. Sanchez is widely recognized in Westchester County and beyond for his dynamic leadership style and commitment to inclusion, communication, and engagement, which ranked highly among district residents as attributes for the next superintendent. In 2020, Dr. Sanchez received the Distinguished Service Award from the Lower Hudson Council of School Superintendents. His professional and personal affiliations span a variety of causes and interests having served as President of the Lower Hudson Council of School Superintendents and of the Putnam Northern Westchester Curriculum Council, as well as a Board member of NY Presbyterian Hospital, the Jacob Burns Film and Educational Media Center, 914 Cares, and The United Way.
Dr. Sanchez, who grew up in Tarrytown and continues to have strong ties to the community, says that he is eager to work on behalf of this diverse and thriving district.

Dr. Sanchez received his Bachelor of Science from the State University of New York at Geneseo. He earned his Master's Degree from Long Island University, and Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Manhattanville College, along with a certificate of Advanced Study in Education Administration from Columbia University. Dr. Sanchez, along with his wife and three children, reside in Westchester County.

El Dr. Sanchez se unirá a las Escuelas Públicas de los Tarrytowns desde El Distrito Escolar Libre de Ossining donde ha desempeñado diversas funciones durante las últimas dos décadas. Como Superintendente de Escuelas de Ossining desde el 2013, el Dr. Sánchez ha mejorado la calidad de la educación en todo el distrito mediante el apoyo a la innovación y la respuesta a las diversas necesidades de su población estudiantil. También ha dado prioridad a fomentar la confianza y forjar alianzas con el profesorado, el personal y la comunidad en general. Con ese fin de ayudar a conceptualizar el OrgulloO, un centro escolar comunitario que conecta a las familias con servicios y recursos, e inicio la participación de Ossining en My Brother’s Kepeer, un programa que conecta a niños y jovenes de color con redes de apoyo para desarrollar habilidades de preparacion universitaria y profesional.

El Dr. Sanchez es ampliamente reconocido en el Condado de Westchester y otras regiones por su estilo de liderazgo dinámico y su compromiso con la inclusión, la comunicación, y el compromiso, los cuales se posicionaron muy alto entre los residentes del distrito como atributos para el próximo superintendente. El Dr. Sanchez recibió su Título Universitario en Ciencias de la Universidad Estatal de Nueva York en Geneseo.
