More Than a Thousand Socks Donated During Socktober
Student government representatives from Washington Irving Intermediate School could hardly contain their excitement Monday, while they counted and boxed socks donated to their school during their Socktober Drive.
1,067 pairs of socks for the homeless were donated by teachers, students, administrators and staff members from all of the Public Schools of The Tarrytowns. A community member even donated 30 pairs directly from Amazon to the District.
Librarian Kerri DiLascio organized the Socktober event last month inspired by the nationwide movement. Socks and underwear are the least donated items for people in need.
Students boxed the socks that will be distributed by Midnight Run and Project S.H.A.R.E in time for the Thanksgiving holiday.
“Imagine if you don’t have socks,” said fourth grade student Niva Pandya. “It would be so unbearable.”
Classmate Iris Griffin agreed,” I feel like they are going to be very happy and grateful.”
