Seven SHHS Student-Athletes Honored at Signing Ceremony  as they Prepare for College Careers

Seven student-athletes proudly marked the culmination of their SHHS athletic careers at the recent college signing ceremony, where each student celebrated their final college decisions, their hard work over the years, and their commitment to their sports at the college level. SHHS congratulates seniors Juliana Largess, Sabrina Conrad, Max McClung, Alfredo Rodriguez, John Nisco, Alexa Charles and Robert Lustyik as each prepares for their post-high school journeys. Here’s a quick look at what’s on the horizon for each of these outstanding Horsemen upon graduation:

This fall, Juliana will become a Bronco as she joins the women’s soccer team at SUNY Delhi and trains with Coach Ward. A 5-year Varsity Player and 2x All-League Selection for SHHS, Juliana has excelled as an athlete, also participating in Softball and Track and Field. The SHHS athletic department appreciates her many contributions over the years and wishes her much success! 

Competing on her club swim team at an extremely high level for many years, Sabrina’s hard work and talent have earned her a National Letter of Intent to attend the College of the Holy Cross and swim for the Crusaders under the tutelage of newly appointed Head Coach Jones. Congratulations, Sabrina, and good luck with your new coach and team!

Like Sabrina, Max has also competed on his club swim team for many years. He has honed his athletic ability to the point where he is able to compete at a Division I or II level—the Yellow Jackets and Coach Wylam will be lucky to have such a strong swimmer on their team this fall as he begins his first semester at The University of Rochester. Congratulations, Max!

Alfredo returned to the Tarrytown school district this past year and played a significant role on the football team’s offensive line. Alfredo, who was also a member of the Varsity Basketball team, has contributed so much to the SHHS athletic department in just a year since his return. The athletic department is sad to say goodbye to him so soon but wishes him much luck as he joins the AMCATS and Coach Croce at Anna Maria College.

Fellow teammate and 2-year Varsity Player Robert has also been an integral asset to the football team. Along with being an All-League Selection for SHHS this past season, Robert has always been a great and much-appreciated leader for the team and is sure to bring the same energy to his new team at Misericordia, where he will play for the Cougars and Coach Davis.

As an All-League, All-Section and League Player of The Year during his Junior year, 4-year Varsity Baseball player John is one of the team's strongest leaders on and off the field. He recently was named Port Chester Tournament MVP for this year and is very likely to retain his All-League and All-Section Honors again this year. In the meantime, John has committed to play baseball at Mercy College for the Mavericks under Coach Schoen.

With over 1,500 points in her career, Varsity Basketball Player Alexa Charles will leave Sleepy Hollow as one of the best players to ever participate in the program. During her career, she has been a 2-time All-League and All-Section player, League Player of The Year, a LOHUD 2nd team All-Star as a senior, and a member of this year’s All-State Team. She has also been the captain of the team for the past 2 years. 

“I know that I will have to adjust when I get to college because the competition will be on a whole different level,” Alexa said as she prepares to join the team under Coach Gerret at Hunter College—a statement that resonates for all of the talented student-athletes as they prepare for their college careers. “I’m really proud of all my fellow athletes. They truly want it and have shown a lot of commitment.”

Echoing Alexa’s sentiments, Tarrytown Athletic Director, Michael Arias notes the challenge of participating in college athletics.

 “It’s no easy task—it requires a lot of sacrifice, determination, perseverance and effort on behalf of the students and their families to put themselves in the position to play at college,” he said. “It is why we are so proud of our college-bound athletes! We really look forward to seeing how this group of students continue to do great things in their college careers."
